Enhancing Transaction Authorization Efficiency for Mastercard.

As a job interview task for a role in Mastercard, I had to analyze a transaction authorization data to identify areas for efficiency improvement and then propose actionable UX strategies + deliver insights through a visually compelling presentation.

My role was to wear multiple hats.

1. Data analysis and visualization.
2. Business strategy recommendations.
3. Presentation design and storytelling.

Step 1: Understanding the Problem

  • Reviewed the task details and data provided in the Excel file.

  • Gained clarity on the objectives: to analyze data, summarize insights, and recommend actionable solutions.

Step 2: Data Analysis

  • Performed a high-level review of the transaction authorization dataset.

  • Segmented the data by key metrics: Card Issuer Regions, Merchant Regions, and Products.

  • Highlighted areas with the highest transaction decline rates using charts and tables for clarity.

Step 3: Key insights

  • Grouped findings into actionable categories

  • Used visualizations to showcase patterns.

Step 4: Opportunity Identification (2 improvements)

  • Fraud Detection & Prevention: Using AI to analyze abnormal patterns & enhance detection.

  • Customer Education & Communication: Creating engaging educational materials and notifications.

Step 5: Recomendations

  • Organized the findings in the Excel file with detailed notes.
